The estate has been managed by tenants and residents since 1995 and taking ownership of the property was a natural next step. The neighbourhood offers some of the best affordable rented housing in Wirral, with local amenities that include primary and junior schools, shops, recreation centre, pubs and a community owned social club.
Tenants and residents have overseen the transformation of a monolithic and run down council estate into a modern environment of family houses with gardens and sheltered flats and bungalows for older people.
Beechwood Ballantyne has raised private finance to undertake a comprehensive improvement programme that will put the estate above and beyond the Government's "Decent Home Standard". In our first two years we have already given tenants a choice of new components and by 2010, all our properties will have been fitted with double glazing, new kitchens, bathrooms and many other upgrades. We have also started a £270,000 programme to update our shopping facilities and community garden, are providing a new and friendly housing office and have other environmental improvements planned.
